Interview: Andrea Bonacorsi – a winning start to the season

One of the riders to look out for in the EMX125 championship in 2019 will be Andrea Bonacorsi.

The young Italian has spent a number of years with the Silver Action KTM team but with that team closing their doors, Bonacorsi has signed with the Celestini KTM team in 2019.

Bonacorsi has already had his first race with the new team at the first round of the International Italian Championship and he won the 125cc class so it’s a great start to the season.

We caught up with the young Italian to discuss his first race and much more.

Gatedrop: Andrea,  you won the first round of the International Italian Championship in Riola, can you talk me through your moto’s?

Andrea Bonacorsi: I started the weekend very well with a good second place in the qualifying.  In the first race I had a bad start than I come back good but at the and of the race I broke my goggles so I finished in 4th position. In the second moto I had a good start in the top 10 and in the second lap I was in first position and I was able to win it with a good gap.

Gatedrop: You’ve spent the last few seasons with the Silver Action KTM team – when did you find out they were leaving the paddock for 2019 and was it stressful securing another ride in the paddock?

Andrea Bonacorsi: It was quite stressful because I have never had experience with other teams so it was a bit difficult to choose the team for the new season.

Gatedrop: You’ve signed with Celestini KTM, how the deal all come about?

Andrea Bonacorsi:  After the Lommel podium I received many offers with many teams and I chose the most convenient for me.

Gatedrop: So far how has everything been going with you and the new team?

Andrea Bonacorsi: It’s going very well. I found myself immediately going very well and the team give me everything that I need.

Gatedrop: What’s your expectations for the EMX125 championship in 2019?

Andrea Bonacorsi: We have a lot of expectations we’ll see at the first race.

Gatedrop: Last year you rode really well in Lommel, how did it feel running up at the front and do you think that race give you the belief you needed?

Andrea Bonacorsi: Surely, that race give me the right belief to continue to fight.

Gatedrop: Who do you seeing as being the main challengers for the EMX125 title in 2019?

Andrea Bonacorsi: I haven’t seen anyone yet it so we will have to wait and see.

Gatedrop: Have you had a look at the calendar yet and what’s your thoughts on it? What tracks are you looking forward to the most?

Andrea Bonacorsi: Yes, surely I am looking forward to racing back in Lommel.
