Interview: Alexander Brown – now a GP rider!

Alexander Brown has been impressing in the British championship for the last couple of years now and Roger Magee has clearly been taking notice!

The young Scot has now moved across to the Hitachi KTM UK fuelled by Milwaukee team as an initial fill-in for Conrad Mewse, but crucially, he will also get to stay with team for the rest of the season when Mewse does come back.

It’s an amazing opportunity, so we caught up with Brown to get his thoughts on a life-changing week as he gets ready to race his first world championship event in Portugal!

Gatedrop: Alexander, you’ve just got an amazing opportunity after signing a deal with the Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team to fill in for the rest of the season. How did the deal all come about?

This article continues below

Yeah I landed a very good deal, I got the call from BC (Bryan Connolly) after Conrad got hurt at Canada heights asking if I would fill in to do mx2 world championship and I most definitely could not turn it away.

Gatedrop: Even though you’ve signed after Conrad Mewse’ injury, you will stay with the team even when he returns from injury. Where you expecting that to be the case?

Yeah I will stay for the rest of the year to race under the Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team, to be honest it all came about so fast I didn’t expect anything like this.

Gatedrop: The deal has only been announcing and you are racing Portugal this weekend but have you done any testing with the team?

No I haven’t done any testing whatsoever, it’s all happened so fast, as the team was in Italy last weekend so they did not have any time to ride or test the bike.

Gatedrop: There were some rumours last year that you’d sign with the Hitachi KTM team, where you ever in talks with them and was a deal close?

No there was never really a deal going on, I was talking to them a little bit but nothing ever came around.

Gatedrop: At World Championship and EMX level you are pretty inexperienced, you must be looking forward to racing the best riders in the world and learning lots from them?

Yeah, I’ve only ever done 4 emx races now and never a mx2 world championship so I have most definitely been thrown in the deep end, I look forward to going out and enjoying myself there are absolutely no expectations what so ever I just want to go out and have some fun.

Gatedrop: You rode the EMX250 championship round at Lommel last year, just how did that go for you?

Lommel was my first ever emx and I loved every minute of it. The track was so rough but that’s what I like, I also had a good race 2 to finish in 17th so yeah Lommel was good for me.

Gatedrop: Out of all the tracks left for the MX2 series to head too, which ones are you looking forward to the most?

I really look forward to Lommel. The place gets so rough and mentally tough it really shows who’s been putting in the work

Gatedrop: What are your expectations for the rest of the season?

In the maxxis I would like to be in the top 6 and the GP I am just going out to have fun and improve each round. I will give each race my best go and what happens happens

Gatedrop: Anyone you’d like to thank?

Firstly I would like to thank roger Magee and the full hitachi ktm fuelled by Milwaukee team for giving me this opportunity, also a big thank you to Dylan brown Apico factory racing for allowing me to take this amazing opportunity and all my other sponsors for understanding this is a huge chance for me. putoline uk, Bryan Mackenzie 121 training, Dyce carriers, talonengineering, pro carbon , ftr suspension, Bob Bucanan at Oakley riders uk, Drysdale motorcycles.
