It wasn’t a good weekend for two Dutch riders. Not only did Bas Vaessen break his neck but fellow Dutch rider, Sven Van der Mierden has also been in the wars.

The Hutten Metaal Yamaha rider crashed on Saturday and as a result has broken his back which will see him out of action for a while.

It’s a shame as Van der Mierden had been preparing for the last round of the Dutch Masters this weekend before rejoining the MXGP World Championship.

“Unfortunately I will be out for a while. I crashed on Saturday and broke my back. I had surgery and I will make a full recovery. Thanks for all the messages and hopefully we will see each other soon! Happy with the people behind me”, Van der Mierden commented.
