Injury update: Graeme Irwin – injuries a little more complicated than first thought

Unfortunately, Graeme Irwin crashed out at the final round of the MXGP World Championship, you can watch the crash here.

Irwin was due to represent Ireland at the Motocross Des Nations this weekend at RedBud but had to miss the event which is a big blow for himself and the team.

However, Irwin now needs to focus on his recovery and think towards the 2019 season.

The Hitachi KTM UK rider posted the following injury update:

“Injury Update!!!
Been a rough week to be honest – mentally and physically… Had my wrist re-positioned in Italy so it was safe for me to fly home. Thanks to my good pal Ian for getting me straight into the Ulster Hospital to get sorted. Following scans etc I underwent my first surgery on Thursday and my second surgery on Friday. I have now discovered that my injuries were a little more complicated than first thought but lucky I’m surrounded by good doctors and a great surgeon. I will have another operation on Monday and hopefully this will be the last and then I can concentrate on making a full and speedy recovery!! I am absolutely gutted not to be riding for my country at Red Bud this weekend. I just want to wish Gary, Richard and Martin all the best for the weekend and to do us proud. I also want to thank Philip (team manager) for what an amazing job he has done and I hope the guys do him proud and I am just gutted I can’t be a part of it!! Also thanks to my team for the amazing support they have shown. GI #1 #55″
