Calvin Vlaanderen made a return to racing at the fifth round of the MX2 World Championship at Mantova and had a solid day.

However, the HRC Honda rider has received bad news as he’s got an infection in his foot which turns out to be worse than first thought.

Vlaanderen has revealed that he needs to have an operation. He’ll have to play a waiting game on when he can be back on the bike but this isn’t the season he was hoping for coming into 2019.

“Super upset I won’t be out in Portugal this weekend, I found out I’ve got an infection in my foot a few days ago and have been on antibiotics but it appears to be worse than what we thought and will require surgery. I will let you guys know when I know more. Thanks to my team for the support”, Vlaanderen posted on social media.
