Illness means Mackrel has to wait for EMX250 debut

James Mackrel put an entry in to contest the EMX250 championship taking place at Matterley Basin next weekend with full intention of lining up.

However, Mackrel has been hit with the flu which means he won’t compete – it’s important to be 100% racing at such a high level.

“I’m not happy because I really wanted to contest the EMX250 round at Matterley Basin but I’ve ended up with a bad dose of the flu and my chest is bad. If I can get another EMX250 entry later in the year for somewhere I may do it”, Mackrel commented.

Despite being under the weather, Mackrel was in impressive form at the first round of the Irish Championship winning four races from a possible six as he contested both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

“It was a good day for me, it’s just a pity about the wheels collapsing and punctures as I felt strong all day. Other than that, all in all I enjoyed it and have took the positives from the day.  Now I’m all set towards the Ulster Championship and next British championship at Lyng”, Added Mackrel.

Despite not racing the EMX250 series at Matterley Basin, Mackrel will travel to the Bridgestone Masters in two weeks time where he’ll go up against the best riders in the UK as well as contesting the rest of the MX2 Maxxis British Championship.
