Horgmo shows EMX250 race winning speed in Lommel

Lommel hosted the eighth round of the EMX250 Championship in Lommel and everything looked to fall into place for Kevin Horgmo. After finishing a strong second in the first moto, the second moto looked to be going even better for the young Norwegian. However, with two laps to go he took a big crash which cost him his victory which was a bitter pill to swallow for him and the CreyMert Racing team. In the EMX125, David Braceras unfortunately failed to qualify at the tough sand track in Lommel.

EMX250:

During qualifying, Kevin put in the third quickest time during his qualifying group but the track got much rougher for the first EMX250 race which was the last moto of the first day. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Horgmo was sat in fifth around the first corner but it didn’t take him long to make moves. The Norwegian moved up to second by the end of the first lap. Horgmo was putting the pressure on Boisrame for the race win but then took a small crash which pushed him down to fourth. Not happy, he responded and battled his way back up to second by the end of the first moto with Maxime Renaux winning the moto.

In the second race, Pocock took a good start but Horgmo was able to take the lead at the first corner. The 17-year-old looked really comfortable at the front of the pack the entire moto but then it went wrong with two laps to go when he took a big crash. It meant he missed out on his first overall victory which is a huge shame. The one positive he can take out of the weekend though is that he clearly has the speed to win.

EMX125:

The weekend didn’t go according to plan for David Braceras as he couldn’t qualify for the main races. During timed practice he ended up 24th in his group and with only the top eighteen progressing it meant he had to go to the LCQ. In the LCQ the young Spaniard didn’t get a good start as he was in eleventh. He worked his way up to eighth but then took a crash which ruined any chance he had of qualifying, but he’ll work hard to bounce back from this disappointment.

Kevin Horgmo: I felt awesome in Lommel at the weekend. In race 1 I challenged for the win, but could only get 2nd. In race two I was leading every lap, I stayed calm and focused until the end. I felt really strong all moto, but a small mistake resulted in a big crash with 2 laps to go. I am very disappointed to miss my first win and overall.

David Braceras: I couldn’t do one good lap in the time practice and I didn’t qualify directly. I go to the last chance and I have a crash and I can’t qualify. But now I have two weeks to Switzerland and I will train hard to change the results.

Next race:

The team will head to the Grand Prix of Switzerland where both championships will continue.
