Martin Barr is ready to get going in Latvia with the red plate shining brightly on his Revo Husqvarna machine.
Barr, despite injury to his leg and thumb, has still been consistent so far and says he loves the track in Kegums. “I’m really looking forward to Latvia it’s one of my favourite tracks, I won the B final there at the Nations and I am coming off the overall win at Blaxhall in the British championship,” commented the Northern Irishman, but he admits the injuries he sustained at round one of the British championship have proved difficult to ride with.
“It was kind of frustrating because I haven’t been able to do my preparation or ride during the week because I have been trying to save my thumb for the weekends. I got out riding this week for the first time since before Culham so I have been starting to feel it a little bit on the bike,” states Barr. “Hopefully now with doing my preparation again during the week I can pick it up again and get back to the way I should be and how I feel on the bike.”
And Barr says he won’t be doing anything different this weekend because he has the red plate and says he is really enjoying racing the unpredictable EMX2 series. “With having the red plate now it would be nice to hold onto it, I know it won’t be easy there are 14 points covering the top five in the championship and there is still a long way to go.
“I am not thinking about the championship I’m thinking about taking each weekend as it comes. The EMX250 championship has been so up and down. it’s been unbelievable but so enjoyable. I haven’t even had an overall podium position yet but I am leading the championship.”
Barr was unsurprisingly confirmed to represent team Ireland again at the end of the year at the MXoN and he is looking to going back to the States and getting to ride at Red Bud. Barr rode superbly in the last MXoN of Nations in the States at Budds Creek, leading Ireland to 13th overall and 7th in the MX2 class. “It’s my 14th consecutive year to be picked for team Ireland and I am really looking forward to going back to America and getting to ride Red Bud. So hopefully the way I have been going and the way Graeme and Stuey have been riding we can go there and get a solid result.”
