DRT to only run one rider in 2019?

As things currently look, the Bike it Dixon Racing Kawasaki team may only run one rider in the 2019 season. American, Darian Sanayei has a contract with the team for what will be his last year to contest the MX2 World Championship due to the under 23 age rule.

Together with Kawasaki Europe, DRT decided not to enter the MXGP class, which meant Searle was placed with the new BOS Kawasaki setup in 2019. It had been thought that Dixon might have signed up another MX2 rider to partner Darian Sanayei.

When we got in contact with Steve Dixon, he did confirm the main plan is to focus on Sanayei underneath the DRT awning.

“At this moment yes, it is our plan to put all our efforts and budget into Darian, he is potentially one of the podium guys. We have very good support from Kawasaki Europe and Darian is paid to do a good job for Kawasaki, I believe he will. Our overall budget has increased again for 2019 so that is really positive, but we are a small team in terms of personnel, and I like it that way, so we can focus”. Dixon commented on the team’s structure.

“We want to ensure Darian has the back up to fight for wins and a top final championship position as we had with Max (Anstie) when he finished 3rd in 2015 after Mel (Pocock) got injured. However, we are still not ruling out to add another 250 rider, I am thinking more about the 2020 season for a rider so it may be to have a 2nd rider this year in readiness for 2020, the new 2019 KX450 is looking great and so it is looking really promising for a potentially new 250 bike in 2020”. Added Dixon.

It’s good to see DRT not completely rule out signing another MX2 World Championship rider but we won’t know until December if Dixon does add another a second rider to his line up.
