Dean Wilson confirms he’ll be a privateer in 2019

Dean Wilson recently released a video in which he announced that he’d be starting off the 2019 season as a privateer.

On why he’s not with Husqvarna for 2019..

Unfortunately, I’m no longer part of the Husqvarna team. I want to give a big thank you to Bobby Hewitt and everybody there. I honestly had such a good time in the team, it was a really good couple of years.

With Zach (Osborne) moving up, which he fully deserves and Jason (Anderson) there just wasn’t any room for me on the team. That’s just the way it goes, it’s a tough pill to swallow but I feel like you have to bite the bullet. I really feel like I can still do it.

Plans for 2019..

Pretty much what the plans are for the season is that I’m pretty much going to be a privateer. I will keep it small and low key, running out of the sprinter van.

On having some offers..

I’ve had some offers from teams that weren’t factory teams and I obviously really appreciate the offers and stuff like that but I feel like if I keep it small I wont be tied to anything. When opportunities come then I will be really available. It would be a shame for a team to put all this time into helping you and then something better comes along and you kind of just go that way. I’d rather keep it small and have some of my own sponsors. At this time, the support has been amazing from the fans, it’s been incredible. For everyone that still sticks behind me when not in the best position, it does mean a lot to me. I wanna thank the fans behind me and the sponsors sticking with me.

Testing different bikes..

Obviously I’ve been on Husqvarna’s for the last couple of years so I want to try every bike out there. I haven’t rode any Japanese manufacturers for a couple of years and they’ve all changed. So, why not give myself the best opportunity to feel the best that I can on the bike? I really just want to see what bike (Honda, Kawasaki, Husqvarna and Yamaha) that I feel good on. I want to say a big thank you to Mitch Payton because he’s going to be helping me a lot. He’s going to be a big part of my program and we’ll get bikes from a dealership but first things first, I need to decide which bike I’m going to ride.
