Beaton impresses at Redsand!

Under very different weather conditions compared to last week at Valkenswaard, Jed Beaton impressed during round three of the MX2 World Championship. In Argentina, the Australian managed to score 27 World Championship points, but the 20-year-old bettered that this weekend by scoring 28 points at Redsand. Adam Sterry (10-14) was eleventh overall and Ruben Fernández-Garcia (19-12) was fifteenth at his home GP! The victory went to Pauls Jonass, he won both moto’s again!

During the first moto, Beaton had the best start out of the F&H Racing Team trio. The Australian was eighth on the first lap before Thomas Kjer Olsen found his way past on his Husqvarna. Beaton managed to pass TM’s Bernardini to get himself back into eight and that’s where he ended up. Sterry didn’t have a good start as he was buried down in sixteenth on the first lap. The Brit worked his way through the pack to end up a solid tenth in the first moto. Fernández had a decent start as he was just outside the top ten on lap one. The MX2 rookie is still adapting to the class after moving up from the EMX250 series, he ended up nineteenth but will have been hoping for better in moto two.

After his bad start in the first moto, Sterry was able to put that behind him and got a much better jump for the second moto, he was fifth around the first corner. However, the Brit then crashed which left him down in thirtieth and just like in the first moto had it all to do coming through the pack. Sterry eventually ended up fourteenth, he can be positive about his speed but needs to get better starts and cut down on his mistakes. Beaton took another good start as he was sixth on the first lap and that’s where he stayed for the entire race – that’s his best moto of the year so far. Fernández also upped his game for the second moto as he was battling for a top ten, in the end he missed out to Brylyakov and Vaessen but can be happy with his twelfth position in moto two.

Jed Beaton: “The weekend started pretty slow on Saturday but I enjoyed racing the long motos. I didn’t really get great start which didn’t help me but all in all it was a decent weekend. I never gave up and charged hard during the first few laps each time to come back into the leading group; it was pretty easy to pass during the first couple of laps when everyone was close together, but later there was mainly one good line and that make it difficult to make more passes. I’m happy to finish once more in the top ten; that’s my goal and we’ll keep on working to be closer to the top five.”

Next race:

The FIM World Championship continues on the 7th and the 8th of April at the MXGP of Trentino in Italy. The F&H Racing Team will be in action at the next round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross on Easter Monday taking place at Oldebroek.
