Baggett on his first 450SX Main Event win

Baggett on his first 450SX Main Event win

It would become a historic night for Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC -KTM-WPS inside the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ as Blake Baggett lit the candles to take the 450SX win at round two of the 2019 Supercross season. This achievement marks both Blake’s and the team’s first win in the premier 450SX class of Supercross.

The technical Glendale track suited Blake Baggett’s style, and it showed during his heat race. His starts were dialed, and he used the exceptional traction from his Dunlop tires to hook up on the slick dirt and round the first turn in 4th. Looking poised and hitting his marks every lap, he held down 4th through the checkered flag to transfer straight to the main event.

With his good gate pick, Blake launched off the start in the main event and soon found himself in a battle for second place. He would shuffle back to 4th place before a red flag five minutes in stopped the race for a downed rider. Blake used the brief break before the staggered start to refocus. When the race resumed, he came out energized with speed. He found new lines and moved into 2nd place. From there, the race was on, and Baggett’s speed and superior line choices allowed him to catch the leader and defending Supercross champion Jason Anderson from a 2.5-second deficit. In classic “El Chupacabra” style, Blake stalked Anderson for a few laps before pulling the trigger to take the lead with just a few minutes to go. With Anderson passed, Blake finished the race and pulled away from the field in dominating fashion, taking the checkers for his first career 450SX victory. This win moves Blake into 4th place in the championship points.

“I’m pumped on my first 450 supercross win,” said Baggett. “I pulled it together in the main event, found a few good lines and didn’t push too hard as the track was baked. I’m excited to get this win for the team and the goal is to be there for the championship. We’ll go back this week, do the work and come out at Anaheim 2 ready to repeat with another win.”

Justin Bogle is getting more and more comfortable on his KTM 450SX-F FE. He started his heat race just outside the top ten but continued to charge forward and work his way into the top ten by mid-race. The Engine Ice supported rider moved up a few more spots and crossed the finish line in 7th place to transfer straight to the main event.

In the main, a bad jump off the gate had Justin rounding the first turn mid-pack. He started working his way forward until the red-flag stopped the race early on. When the race resumed, the Seat Concepts supported rider worked his way up to 15th by the checkered flag.

“We are making progress,” said Bogle. “The track was good and I felt better out there this week, it was unfortunate I didn’t get the starts I needed. We are improving each week, so we will go back make some changes to the bike and be ready for Anaheim next weekend.”
