2018 British Champions crowned at Lyng

MX2

Back when Conrad Mewse signed for the Hitachi KTM UK team it made him an early favourite for the MX2 British title. However, winning a national championship is always easier said than done. The young Brit hasn’t disappointed though and shown some great speed racing the British series this year.

Mewse had a fourteen points gap heading into the final round. At lyng Mewse went 4-1 in the moto’s to grab the overall victory but more importantly than that clinched the British title. In the end Mewse won the title by just fifteen points from Josh Gilbert who can also be happy with his season. Gilbert will be eager to go one better in 2019.

With Jake Nicholls injured and missing the final round it meant Evgeny Bobryshev knew coming into the final round he needed forty points to secure the MX1 British title. Even though both Nicholls and Irwin were both injured, the Russian had some pretty fast wildcards to deal with in the form of Steven Clarke and Petar Petrov.

The big thing for Bobryshev was to avoid any mishaps at the start of both moto’s and he managed to do that. The Suzuki man went 2-2 in the moto’s which meant he ended up winning the title by five points. You have to feel sorry for Nicholls because it looked like he had the title sewn up but it goes to show it’s not over until the final lap of the season. Nicholls will be back and wanting to clinch the title in 2019.

On the day it was Tommy Searle who dominated the final round as he went 1-1 on his Dixon Kawasaki.

Rossi Beard is a rider with plenty of potential and he came into the final round with a twenty-four points gap in the championship chase.

The Putoline Husqvarna rider went 2-1 in the first two moto’s to clinch the title with a race to go. Beard is a rider to look out for in the future, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the MX2 class in 2019.
