10 riders being considered for Irish Des Nations team

For a number of years, the Irish Motocross Des Nations team has pretty much picked itself if Graeme Irwin, Martin Barr and Stuart Edmonds weren’t injured at that time of the year.

However, with Irwin retiring from Motocross and making the switch to short circuit racing and a number of riders raising their game this year, it gives team manager, Philip McCullough something to really think about.

With the British Championship heading to Desertmartin this Sunday, it’s going to be important for the Irish riders to perform to the best of their ability at that event as that could get them selected for the event.

Team Ireland MXON official Facebook page posted an image which indicates who is being considered for the Des Nations which heads to a sandy Assen this year.

At the moment Martin Barr, Richard Bird, Stuart Edmonds, Jason Meara, Jake Sheridan, Gary Gibson, Glenn McCormick, John Meara, James Mackrel and Luke Smith all seem to be in contention to represent Ireland later in the year.

It’s going to be difficult to cut it down to three riders but you’d have to think Martin Barr will be a definite choice.
